When I start a new creative project, I usually have nothing more in mind than a sketch. My favorite point in the creative process is in the middle. When I’m at the point where I can see a destination, I’m inspired to keep up the momentum. I like to experiment combining different mediums together, and it’s not uncommon for me to have used four different mediums in one artwork. My most recent mixed-media painting was created with watercolor, color pencil and pastel.
Like many artists, I like to draw and paint what I see and give it my own expression. As I developed as an artist, I sometimes compromised my vision in order to create art that I thought would appeal to everyone. Creating art with a broad focus seems simple, but for me it’s difficult. Working at random is easier for me than trying to produce something everyone likes. Art is unique because there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach.
Graphic Design – I’ve written, designed and illustrated dozens of books while finding the time to build two micro-businesses on a tight budget. I started as a graphic designer interning for a local graphic design firm. After graduation, I worked in the ad department at a local newspaper. In 2000, I became an independent designer. In 2015, I started my own handmade business.
Self Publishing – In 2011, I founded an independent publishing company, publishing dozens of my own books from start to finish.
